We have synthesized high-mol.-wt. main-chain calixarene homopolymers via linkages on lower rims. We have found that the calixarene conformation has a profound influence on the polymn. Our synthetic methodol. can be applied to the polymns. of other sterically demanding and conformationally flexible monomers. Main-chain calixarene polymers linked through the lower rims present new opportunities to create efficient sepns., and materials for sensing and actuation, as a result of their dynamic receptor properties.
